Illegal Hunting in Hatay / Turkey
5 Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus) and 2 Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus) were killed by illegal hunters in Samandag / Hatay. Illegal hunters caught by rangers and fined a total of 60 thousands Turkish Lira, unlicensed weapons were seized. Kaynak / Source
Honey Buzzard
Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus) is a migrant species. They are migrating in every migration season from their breeding sites to wintering sites. Unfortunately, thousands of them are becaming target of illegal hunting. Specially the Levant region is important death trap for thousands. Photos from the migration in Istanbul.
Imperial Eagle
Imperial Eagle is one of the most charismatic species in Turkey. IUCN RedList listed Imperial Eagle as vulnerable species. In Turkey, it’s estimated at higher numbers than known, but we need more research.
Hard part of the job
There is an another side of the work. Our dear team member Onur Okur and his colleagues Semra and Kumsal are working to care and feed almost 30 wild animals each day. They care each of them like a baby. Thank you very much for their great efforts.
A day full of Raptors!
We faced with extraordinary fieldwork yesterday with 14 Black Vulture, 3 Egyptian Vulture, 2 Long-legged Buzzard, Booted Eagle and Short-toed Eagle. It has been the most abundant day with raptors till today. Other significant species are Calandra Lark, Black Stork and Black-eared Wheatear. Thank you Boğaçhan Durmaz for his fellowship.

Rufford Conference Turkey 2017
We joined “Rufford SGF – Mediterranean Conference in Turkey” organized by NATURA Nature and Culture Protection Society in Köyceğiz between 15-16 May. We presented our project and shared experiences with nature conservationists, scientists and researches from different countries. Thank you Dr. Okan Urker for his great efforts.
Sakarya Valley
We completed the fieldwork in Mayıslar village of Eskisehir. We carried out the early period of Bird Atlas and also we had chance to observe plenty of raptors. Significant species are Eastern Orphean Warbler, Woodchat Shrike, Black-headed Bunting, Black-eared Wheatear, and as raptors, Lammergeier, Black Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Long-legged Buzzard.
